On August 4, 2024, El-Too foundation with the support of local government of Ton dsitrict organized the “Kyzyl Oruk” Festival, that brought together organic producers in Ton District, showcasing local, sustainable products produced by our permaculture communities. Set against the scenic backdrop of Kekilik’s sandy beach, this vibrant festival aimed to boost the local economy of Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions, spotlight organic products from nearby villages, and celebrate traditional skills. Farmers from Issyk-Kul and Naryn, along with artisans from Karakol and Kazakhstan, gathered to share their goods and talents with visitors.

The festival featured a variety of exciting activities, each bringing visitors closer to the world of organic and sustainable living:

Organic Products Marketplace: Local farmers proudly offered an array of hand-grown fruits, vegetables, honey, dairy products, and handmade crafts. Visitors had the unique chance to purchase fresh, organic goods produced with care and dedication right from the hands of local growers.

Masterclass Hub: This hands-on area introduced guests to ancient Turkic writing through the runic alphabet and allowed them to create beautiful, original toys from wool. Both children and adults participated eagerly, crafting unique pieces to take home as a memory of the day.

Kyrgyz National Games Corner: On Kekilik’s sandy shore, visitors immersed themselves in traditional Kyrgyz games like ordo and tapan. The lively competitions captivated young people, with many vying to win the valuable prizes awarded to the champions.

Permaculture Photo Exhibition: This captivating exhibit showcased stunning photos of permaculture gardens in Issyk-Kul and Naryn, along with resilient plants from the semi-desert region. Visitors marveled at the gardens’ beauty and the unique flora, gaining insight into sustainable farming practices.

The festival was a resounding success, with the Kun-Chygysh local government generously providing artistic and unique prizes to encourage local farmers. A live folklore concert filled the air with music, enhancing the festival’s joyful atmosphere.

The Kyzyl Oruk Festival has become an essential platform for supporting organic village production, raising environmental awareness, and advancing permaculture practices. Each producer left with new insights and connections, empowered to grow and share sustainable practices in the years to come.
